Advocating Storage for Peak Capacity

Room: Ballroom
Date: Wednesday, February 14, 2018
Time: 1:30PM - 2:30PM EST

While gas-fired generation has accounted for nearly all capacity additions for some years, battery storage was deployed for meeting peak capacity for the first time in 2017, and recent utility solicitations have indicated highly competitive storage bids against gas peakers. With longer durations at lower cost expected in the near future, attention is turning to how storage will become the newest part of resource adequacy. This session will discuss the terrain and strategy for storage as an alternative to gas peakers, information gaps and needs for advocates, and examples of promising inroads.
